ART HISTORY LESSON: Wassily Kandinsky 1866-194
PAINTING MUSIC

Wassily Kandinsky: The Father of Abstract Art.
"Of all the arts, abstract painting is the most difficult. It demands that you know how to draw well, that you have a heightened sensitivity for composition and for colors, and that you be a true poet. This last is essential."
He was born in Moscow, Russia. Can you find Moscow Russia on a world map?

What is abstract art?
Abstract Art: Art that does not look like what we see every day, but is created using shapes, forms, colors, and textures.
He felt that music could create images in your mind merely by sound. He wanted to do the same thing with art. He wanted to make reality free, spiritually rich paintings that alluded to sound and emotion.
What does alluded mean? The people looking at the art are meant to make a connection between the art and its meaning. It is not defined by the artist.
